L5R Emerald Edition

Emerald Edition is almost a reprint of Imperial Edition, the original core set (which would be repeated with Obsidian Edition, later on); however some changes were introduced. First of all, a few cards were added to the set: «Kitsu Motso» and «Shosuro Hametsu» (originally from Shadowlands) and «Naga Abomination» (a pre-Imperial promo card). The Ancestral Swords, which came fixed in every Imperial clan deck, were replaced with their corresponding Ancestral Armor. Some cards were also modified; «Hisa» became «Bayushi Hisa» and «The Terrible Standard of Fu Leng» incorporated the alteration it had already undergone in Shadowlands. «The Egg of P’an Ku» stopped being an item and became an action, «Akodo Toturi» lost his Lion colors and became just» Toturi«.
Speaking of which, a handful of Personalities received a new alignment to a new faction, Toturi’s Army, in addition to the ones they already had. The art of various cards was replaced with a new version, notably, «Doji Hoturi»‘s original version received the new art of his «Experienced» version printed in Shadowlands. However most were replaced because they either did not have the required quality or were too generic for the L5R world that was building up. There were also a lot of flavor text changes, Imperial Edition had a lot of text attributed to non-existent characters and that was fixed, or just updated to reflect what was happening in the world, mentioning battles and other events taking place.
In total, there are 306 cards and a single variant, reflecting that FRPG was learning hard to produce a CCG. On the other hand, there was still a problem of off-center cards.
How to distinguish an Emerald Edition card?
The border represents a black marble surface, with white veining, probably a version of the pattern sporting on the back of the Dynasty cards.
